Proofreading

A proofreading is the final editorial step before publication. That means there are no more changes to your manuscript beyond this point. It is the finishing touch. The final polish.

A proofread is strictly mechanical. Whereas a line edit or copy edit includes re-wording and re-phrasing, a proofread does not.

What exactly does a proofread address?

  • Grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.

  • Referencing a style sheet to maintain editorial consistency

  • Formatting

  • On-page layout elements (headers, page numbers, page breaks, placement of charts or tables, etc.)
